About

Product: Woven products

As with other groups in Uaro-ana who engage in weaving activities, this group also intends to continue the weaving tradition in Uaro-Ana, together with other activities such as horticulture or fishing and they use some of their products and some are taken into the centre to sell.

Group Profile

The group has been established for a long time and has 5 members (all women). It is led by Lidia Viegas, the group chief, Alice S. de Araujo, the secretary, and Lucia Lopes, the treasurer officer. Almost every day the women will gather together to share ideas and also share the duties to go to search for palm leaves, to weave and to take the products to the centre to sell. The group produces a variety of products, such as mats, place mats, baskets, boxes, flowers and others.

The name Hosana, which was taken from the Bible, means ” Praise the god” and was selected because they were always involved in church activities and also to strengthen their faith in God.

The group is located in the village of Uaro-Ana, Bikeli, Atauro and can be accessed it by transports such as motorcycle and car or by local boats because it is near the beach or by telephone.
