About

Product: Woven products
Although the suco of Makadade has a variety of groups and traditions, weaving has also become one of the traditions that have been established in the past. Like the products of the other groups, these products can be used according to the needs or events, for example to place vegetables and so on. Because it is located in the mountains, the group finds it easy to find the palm leaves so there is always production. They just need to go and get it and start to weave.
Group Profile
The homan group was established in 2016 in the suco of Makadade. The group is female only and has 17 members being now led by Maria Marciana Soares, as Group Chief, Esmalita Gomes, as Secretary and Amelia Soares, Treasurer. These women are housewives and also engage in horticulture activities but also have a skill in handicraft and from the beginning, they have been producing high quality products such as basket, rice baskets, boxes and bags.
This group was established to preserve and further promote this tradition and, to provide income to women as a way to help their husbands and families buy food and pay for their children’s school.
At the end of their production, they keep them in their place waiting for the Empreza Di’ak or tourists to visit and purchase their products but sometimes they also sell them in Beloi or Dili.
The group is located on the mountains and far from the sea.
