About

Product: Pottery
Pottery is a traditional craft technique of great importance to the community in the Municipality of Manatuto. Traditionally, clay objects are made with clay (called bilibala in the local language) mixed with powdered rice husks, water, and sometimes sand from the sea.
The process of producing clay pieces uses very simple equipment, such as a round stoneand a stick.
The pieces can be used to boil or store water, to cook traditional recipes such as sagu.
Nowadays, clay pieces are also used as decorative products
Group profile
The term Bilibala in the Idate language means "soil used for making pottery" (clay). In 2002, Mateus dos Santos formally created the group, although they had already been producing clay pieces before.
Currently, the group is composed of 2 people.
