About

Product: Woven products and Tais

In contrast to other groups that solely rely on woven products made of palm leaves, the Feto iha Kbi’it group embraces a dynamic approach by incorporating tais fabric into their creations. This thoughtful fusion not only enhances the overall quality but also captivates the attention of people and customers, resulting in truly beautiful products. However, this blending process requires additional knowledge and time, alongside the necessary investment in materials and sewing machines.

By infusing tais into their craft, the Feto iha Kbi’it group opens up a world of possibilities, enabling them to produce an array of products that resonate with women. From handbags to shopping bags, earrings to various accessories, their creative prowess knows no bounds.

The decision to integrate tais into their repertoire is rooted in the recognition that this fusion yields remarkable outcomes. The colorful threads and intricate patterns of tais fabric breathe new life into their creations, adding a touch of elegance and cultural richness. This thoughtful combination not only sets their products apart but also demonstrates their commitment to offering unique and alluring pieces to their discerning clientele.

However, it is important to note that the process of incorporating tais into their work requires expertise and meticulous attention to detail. Acquiring the materials and cutting and sewing them together using sewing machines necessitates both financial investment and a deep understanding of the art form. The Feto iha Kbi’it group’s dedication to their craft is evident in the time and effort they devote to ensure the flawless integration of tais in their products.

Group Profile

Established in 2016 under the leadership of Juliana da Silva, the Feto iha Kbi’it group comprises five talented individuals, consisting of four women and one man. Driven by the desire to preserve traditions while generating income, this group has become a prominent presence in Liquica, celebrated for their remarkable woven products.

The art of weaving has been passed down through generations, with the women of the group learning the technique from their mothers during their formative years. As they honed their skills, they discovered the beauty of combining their woven creations with tais fabric, further enhancing the beauty of their products. Through participation in sewing training programs within the village, they acquired additional techniques and knowledge, opening up new possibilities for creativity.

The Feto iha Kbi’it group showcases their craftsmanship through a diverse range of products, reflecting their dedication to their art. From carpets and bags to bottle carriers, telephone bags, shopping bags, crocodiles, and little boxes, their creations capture the essence of Timorese culture and tradition. Each item is meticulously crafted, imbued with a unique blend of heritage and contemporary design.

Dreaming of a dedicated space to expand their production capabilities, the group aspires to have a spacious workshop where they can bring their creative visions to life. Additionally, they envision a shop to showcase and sell their exquisite products, reaching a wider audience and contributing to their economic sustainability.
