About

Product: Sculpture

As with other groups in Maubara, Liquica, Homan has become an important part of the lives of women in the group Homan Moris mesak. The women have learned from their mothers and have been weaving since their childhood.

The uniqueness of this group is the use of different materials; For example, the palm leaf makes the product tough so they use a different material (boro-tahan) to make it softer. The group also add colour to the materials to make the products more beautiful. The duration and difficulty of making a product depends on what product to make and how large or small it is.

There are a variety of products that the group produces, such as mats, Baskets, bags, tais bags, tais wallets, shopping bags and others.

In the quaint village of Maubara, Liquica, the Homan Moris Mesak group stands as a testament to the enduring significance of Homan in the lives of its talented women. Passed down through generations, the art of weaving has woven its way into their very being, shaping their identities from their early childhood.

What sets the Homan Moris Mesak group apart is their innovative use of diverse materials, elevating their creations to new heights. While the sturdy palm leaf adds resilience to their products, they skillfully incorporate a softer material known as “boro-tahan” to infuse a gentle touch. This blend of elements not only enhances the tactile experience but also showcases their commitment to quality craftsmanship.

Adding a vibrant burst of color, the group meticulously dyes their materials, transforming each creation into a tapestry of hues. The process of crafting a product is a labor of love, with the duration and intricacy varying depending on its size and complexity. From the meticulous weaving of mats to the artful construction of baskets, bags, tais bags, wallets, and shopping bags, the Homan Moris Mesak group boasts a rich repertoire of exquisite offerings.

The Homan Moris Mesak group stands as a beacon of creativity and resilience, perpetuating the legacy of Homan in their community. Their work not only provides a source of income and empowerment for the women but also serves as a vibrant celebration of Timorese craftsmanship.
